What is expected from us when it comes to God’s command to keeping the Sabbath day holy (Ex 20:8-11)? Which day is the Christian Sabbath? Day One Christian Ministries (incorporating the Lord’s Day Observance Society) was founded in 1831 and has been working to preserve the sanctity and benefits of the Lord's Day in our increasingly commercialised and secular society. Our starting point is and always has been the Divine Authority and perpetual obligation of the Christian Sabbath or Lord's Day, and that in asserting that obligation, the gospel of the Grace of God through Christ Jesus should be proclaimed. The Scottish Association with its www.dayonescotland.org web site recommends Christian books, allows visitors to download booklets and other materials to help them learn more about the importance of the Lord’s day-sabbath. Our Scottish Secretary the Revd. Ian S McNaughton writes a monthly blog to stimulate debate and reports on what is relevant in Scotland today when it comes to keeping the Sabbath day holy. We believe the issue of the Lord's day-sabbath is not to do with living in the past but obeying God's Word today and every day. The human soul needs the Christian Sabbath, for the Lord's day is its ‘market day’. The care of man's immortal soul is closely tied up with the practice of keeping Sunday as a day of holy worship and rest. From the Bible; the Apostolic Fathers of the Church; John Calvin and other Magisterial Reformers; the British and American Puritans; the great Protestant Confessions; contemporary theologians and the great preachers of the gospel, we endeavour to tell the story and teach the theology of the Lord’s day-sabbath in media audio sermons, book reviews, relevant bibliography, personalised testimonies and through the Day One Christian Ministries magazine we seek to reach out with the contemporary and relevant message of the Christian Sabbath to the nation today.
"SUNDAY" Six days to labour Travel the road Long time to carry Life's heavy load. Six days for toil Sweat on the head Earn enough money For one's daily bread. Six days for sport If so inclined Or other pleasures Which on earth you can find. Six days to prepare For the day we love best. Yes; Sunday - God's day Which He gave us for rest. | A day we should spend While it does last Giving thanks to God For the six days gone past. Spend it in prayer Worship and praise For it was on Sunday That Christ, God did raise. So remember dear friend Whenever you can Man was not made for Sunday But Sunday for man. Ian Smith | |
